Learning and Development Programs a Key Differentiator for Clients and CLUTCH

Minneapolis firm expands L&D services as remote becomes the norm

Minneapolis, Minn. (September 9, 2020) – While companies and schools continue to navigate the sometimes challenging path of remote learning in the U.S., CLUTCH, a hybrid consultancy and agency based in Minneapolis, is expanding one of its core offerings, learning and development programs, to meet the needs of businesses in a rapidly changing environment.

“Annual business goals, go-to-market strategies and sales and marketing plans have little impact if your people aren’t set up to succeed,” said Troy Schroeder, President/Founder, CLUTCH. “We’re trying to help companies make learning and development less compliance-based and more catalyst for growth.”

CLUTCH recently bolstered its services with the addition of Michelle Jackson, a 30-year veteran in learning and development, international program management, and human resource management.

“Michelle brings both depth and breadth to our learning and development business,” said Schroeder. “When we’re able to combine the knowledge of the client’s business with the expertise in learning, it’s a really good solution.”

With many companies experiencing mixed results with the transition from in-person to remote services, the addition of Jackson is another key differentiator for CLUTCH.

“Because of the pandemic, there’s a huge turn to looking at what online learning can do for companies who now have a lot of people working remotely and can’t do the typical in-person training,” said Jackson. “The potential is significant across all industries. But experience shows us you can’t flip a switch and convert in-person learning to virtual.”

The concepts “training” and “learning and development” are often used interchangeably and viewed as one-in the same. Schroeder sees them as two related, but different things.

“Training is a one-way conversation. It’s skill-based. This is what you need to do. It’s very directive,” said Schroeder. “Learning should be centered on the concept of developing skills and behaviors through seeing, trying and receiving feedback. It is really an ongoing, two-way conversation.”

The unique hybrid makeup of CLUTCH has allowed them to demonstrate to companies that learning and development can be leveraged as a revenue-driving activity and not simply a requirement.

“You have to get deeper with a client in this space, and we have the people and the experience to do that,” said Schroeder. “The ROI of an effective  learning and development program can be exponential when you have more consistency in the knowledge and messaging around a new product. You can build knowledge and confidence in employees, resulting in increased effectiveness and success.”
